Abbink X Co was commissioned to design Brandwacht en Meijers‘ new extension in Utrecht. Brandwacht en Meijer has an unrivalled reputation for their creative, energetic and no-nonsense approach to building decors, exhibitions and interiors with an emphasis on high-end cafe’s & restaurants. Their growing success brings the need to expand their 2500m2 workspace which encompasses wood workshop, steel workshop, headquarters and storage facilities. An important part of the new 750m2 extension will be a 20m x 13m x 7m high canopy for the growing amount of large trucks to be able to load and unload under cover. In keeping with the character of the company AXCO designed a no-nonsense facade & canopy as an exterior ‘living-room’ – based on a ‘light & green concept’ – for the daily activities of men and machines. Demolition of the existing hall next door began as of 2016. The new hall and canopy will be completed by summer 2016.
