What is an ornament? Is it a beautification, a conceptual part of a building, or a technical component of construction? Can an entire building be an ornament? In Am I an Ornament? and on the occasion of the Hildo Krop anniversary, ARCAM shows the return of ornament in the architecture of Amsterdam, with new shapes, materials, and functions. Fifteen recent projects demonstrate the wide range of functions an ornament can fulfil.

The revival of the ornament is one of Abbink X Co’s favourite subjects, never missing an opportunity to include the symbolic, the ethereal and the decorative in our work, embracing the ornamental in all its multifaceted meaning.

Abbink X Co’s project Between the Sheets* has been depicted by photographer Marco de Groot and will be exhibited until november 15th 2020 with work by colleagues UN Studio, SeArch, Benthem Crouwel, West8, Marlies Rohmer, Atelier PUUR, bureau SLA, MMX architecten, OZ architects, LIAG architecten KENK & Studio Job en Studio Tjep.
