Abbink X Co selected for Kun Ming Chi Lake competition in Xi’an

Abbink X Co has been selected to make one of 6 proposals for the northern waterfront of the Kun Ming Chi Lake development as the city of Xi’an prepares to expand it’s borders.

As former capital of the Zhou, Qin, Han, Sui and Tang dynasties this expansion is dominated by historically sensitive factors and the development area is surrounded by heritage sites.

The lake itself , which was once a Han military training area, a water reservoir for Xi’an (called Chang An at that time) and subsequently part of the Tang royal gardens, is being resurrected after having been turned into agricultural land more than 1000 years ago.  The new lake will combine ecological, historical and recreational values in this new extension of the city.

Results of the closed competition are expected at the end of 2012.
